NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce, and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.

To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.

NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual to lead the Public Health agenda within NHS Lothian. The Director of Public Health is an Executive Director of the Board and is the chief source of public health leadership and advice to the Board and the surrounding Local Authorities. You will have a key role to play in working with local communities, health protection, health improvement and promotions and maintaining effective health services. You will also play an important role in forging partnerships with, and influencing, all local agencies to ensure the widest possible participation in health and the health care agenda. You will also lead the Public Health Directorate.

You will need to be passionate about improving health and reducing health inequalities. Excellent communications skills and effective interpersonal and influencing skills are essential. This post presents an exciting opportunity to influence and shape the provision of services within an integrated landscape working with Integrated Joint Board colleagues and other community and planning partners. Experience of operating at a senior level within the NHS and partnership settings is essential. You will have the ability to influence thinking both locally and nationally and be able to demonstrate a track record in addressing health inequalities.
