An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Caithness Midwifery Team for the post of Senior Charge Midwife/Team Leader. This post-holder will lead and manage the team in supporting person centred care through caseload management, continuity of care and development of the CMU as a Community Maternity Hub in line with recommendations of the Best Start National Maternity and Neonatal Services review.
This post will have a lead role in Training and Development and will support the training needs and clinical skills maintenance of staff within the maternity, Rural General Hospital and local SAS teams, in relation to maternity and obstetrics.
Caithness Community Maternity Unit is a free standing midwife-led unit and is based in the Rural General Hospital in Wick. There is a visiting Consultant Obstetrician service with referral pathways to the main maternity unit at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, 100 miles away.
The midwifery team provide antenatal, intrapartum (for local birth) and postnatal care to around 240 women annually. The service is a 24/7 service with on call working overnight.
This post has a clinical commitment as well as leadership, training and management responsibility, therefore the post holder will require excellent communication and team working skills to balance and prioritise the workload accordingly.
The post holder will participate in on-call working and maternity transfers by air and road ambulance. Experience of working in a CMU or remote and rural community midwifery setting and training / practice development will be advantageous. A current Driving Licence is essential.
