Applications are invited for the above post in the National External Quality Assessment Service (UK NEQAS) Centre in the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. The UK NEQAS Centre is one of several in the UK providing audit of laboratory performance to underpin good patient care. The Centre’s work includes audit in the areas of endocrinology, oncology, maternal serum screening for Down’s syndrome and pregnancy testing, for both and non-UK laboratories. This post is a key position in the Centre’s team of five staff, and the post-holder would be expected to serve as deputy to the Centre’s director. In addition to planning scheme activities and day-to-day management of their implementation, the post holder will liaise with a wide range of colleagues including those in participating laboratories, the diagnostic industry, other UK NEQAS Centres and accreditation agencies. They should be able to represent the views of the Centre at local, regional and national levels and be prepared to travel more widely if required.
Applicants should have a background in providing a diagnostic service, coupled with an interest in research into the use of audit data to promote improved outcomes for patients. They should ideally be registered with the Health Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist, but those nearing completion of their State Registration are welcome to apply. The close association between the UK NEQAS centre and the Department of Laboratory Medicine provides opportunities for applicants wishing to further their interest in diagnostic laboratory work, and CPD. The post may be available at Agenda for Change Band 7.
