Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) – Community Engagement have an exciting opportunity within the Participation Network team. The Community Engagement directorate supports the engagement of people and communities in shaping health and care services.  The directorate’s local presence through its 14 engagement offices and national reach enables it to work in a variety of ways, gathering evidence and best practice from across Scotland.

The Participation Network provides social research and evaluation support across the organisation and conducts research and evidence gathering to inform national policy, with reports being published on the HIS – Community Engagement website.

This role will provide social research support within the Participation Network and across the Community Engagement directorate’s engagement office network. The successful candidate will assist with systematic and robust research and evaluation of projects through working with more senior staff, peers and Engagement Officers to define research questions, undertaking literature reviews, collecting and collating both quantitative and qualitative data, synthesising and writing up the findings of research.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a relevant social science discipline with a post graduate qualification in research methods or a qualification with a significant practical research element. With relevant experience in social research or evaluation methods, candidates should have specialist knowledge of one or more areas of research methodology such as the analysis and use of quantitative data, critical appraisal or qualitative research. They should also possess a good understanding of a wide range of other health services research skills, for example qualitative research methods, questionnaire development, statistical analysis and epidemiology. Working with the Participation Network team, the candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to convey often complex information to a wide variety of audiences, and be able to work independently to adhere to tight deadlines.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland is committed to advancing equality and promoting diversity. We therefore encourage anyone to apply for this role. As a Disability Confident employer we will be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments candidates may require to support them in the application process.
