National Services Scotland (NSS) is a national NHS Board operating at the heart of NHSScotland providing support and advice at a strategic and operational level. This role is one of the most influential and high-profile opportunities across the organisation and we’re looking for an outstanding candidate who can help maximise the positive impact NSS can have on NHS Scotland and the wider public sector. In this key role you will work with the Executive Management team to lead, direct and inform the strategic director for NSS. You will be instrumental in assisting the Board in making strategic decisions, understand its appetite for risk, the key drives of performance and key points of decision making. This role will lead and direct the executive of the agreed Board strategy. You will also progress and support delivery of ministerial targets, actively engaging with other public sector leaders to deliver on this.
You will report to the Chief Executive of NHS NSS and will be a member of the Executive Management Team, providing leadership, support and guidance across all functions of the organisation. The dimensions of the role provide a strong indicator of its importance and complexity.
You will have significant influence on the plans and priorities of the Strategic Business Units and be responsible for leading on and driving forward operational excellence across the whole of NSS. In addition, you will have the ability to influence and the shape and the range of services across NSS and how these are designed to meet the needs of customers.
This is a very challenging but highly rewarding position which will require the successful candidate to have outstanding strategy, leadership and influencing skills. Key to the role is the ability to effectively engage with multiple stakeholders and communicate your vision and ideas in a clear and concise manner. You must be highly results–oriented but achieve those results working in partnership and with a keen eye for political sensitivity and the need to work as a team. It is vital that you espouse the values of the NHS in Scotland with openness, integrity, respect and care being at the heart of those values.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Degree level in a relevant discipline or a post-graduate qualification would be desirable or equivalent experience
Evidence of continuing professional/personal development, including management and leadership development.
You will have experience of operating at a senior management level in a diverse, complex, and expanding organisation which requires the operation and understanding of matrix management skills.
In addition, experience at a senior level in a commercial organisation along with experience of the NHS and the dynamics of the Healthcare system, or other public sector organisation would be a distinct advantage.
You will require the highest levels of communication skills, and an open, supportive and visible management style in order to earn the confidence and respect necessary to deliver effectively the agenda on major change; to develop a culture that encourages initiative, individual and team responsibility and open communication that motivates staff.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
