Post:   CONSULTANT ORTHOPAEdIC SURGEON WITH AN INTEREST IN KNEE surgery

base:  QUEEN ELIZABETH UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, GLASGOW, with duties at the new victora hospital (ACH)


The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital has an Orthopaedic Department comprising of 35 Consultants with Specialist Interests in Hip, Knee, Upper Limb, Foot

and Ankle, Pelvis, Limb Reconstruction, Brachial Plexus and Spine. This is a replacement post to provide expertise in knee and trauma surgery.  The Consultant

will be expected to provide in-patient services at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and day surgery/ 23 hour surgery at the Victoria ACH.  Outpatient

services are provided across the two sites. 

Consultants work in teams of 3 to provide general trauma cover services.  The QEUH will be designated as a Level 2 Trauma Centre in 2021 and it is expected that the successful applicant will actively participate in the development of a Managed Clinical Network in Orthopaedic Trauma.​​​​​​​

In addition to providing clinical services the successful candidate will be required to undertake the administrative duties required in a consultant job. Research will be encouraged especially if it has the potential to benefit direct patient care.

Applicants must have full GMC registration, a licence to practice and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
