Looking for a new and exciting challenge? Then think about working in NHS Forth Valley in the heart of Scotland.

NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Community Child Health.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialty doctor to join our small and friendly Child Development Team within Forth Valley Paediatric Department.

The post is designed to support a growing service as we undertake a redesign including plans for implementation of Neurodevelopmental pathway project for 0-18 year olds in Forth Valley.

Special interest and experience in Neurodevelopmental assessments may be of advantage but is not essential.

The post holder will not be expected to work within acute Paediatrics and there are no on-call commitments associated with this post.

Currently, we hold specialised Community child health clinics for children with hearing and visual impairment, neurodisability, neurodiversity, botox assessment and therapy, Looked after and Accommodated children assessments, Adoption and Fostering assessments, Enuresis and Encopresis, Comprehensive health assessments and School health clinics.

Community Child Health Clinics take place in the main acute Forth Valley Royal Hospital as well as wider geographical areas of Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire.

The team has excellent links with the wider Paediatric services and multidisciplinary teams across the health board.

The Combined Department of Child Health currently has a team of 15 Consultant Paediatricians (General Paediatrics), 2 Associate Specialists, 7 Specialty Doctors, Specialty Trainees, Foundation Year II and GP specialist trainees and Clinical Development Fellows. Advance Paediatric Nurse Practitioner (APNP), Enhanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ENNP) and 2 Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNP).

From the above - 3 Consultant Paediatricians, 1 Associate Specialist and 3 Specialty Doctors contribute to the delivery of Community Child Health Services in Forth Valley.

On occasions, we would have a Paediatric trainee allocated to Forth Valley on a Community Child Health rotation.

The department provides comprehensive paediatric and neonatal care to a population of 310,000 people with 60,000 children under the age of 16 years and about 3,200 deliveries per annum. There is a 25 bedded combined medical and surgical Paediatric ward; a 20 bed Neonatal Unit supporting a Consultant led Obstetric unit and an 8 bed Paediatric Day Care Unit.

Forth Valley Paediatric department participates in several regional and national Managed Clinical networks facilitating the maintenance of specialist interests for all senior medical staff.  Forth Valley Paediatric department has teaching commitments to undergraduates and postgraduates from Edinburgh, Tayside and Glasgow.  Involvement in research is encouraged and active participation in the Scottish Patient Safety Programme (Paediatric, Neonatal and Maternity) is well established.

This appointment aims to:

Support the delivery of Community Child Health Services in Forth Valley in hospital and outreach outpatient settings within Forth Valley area.

Special interest and experience in Neurodevelopemental assessments is desirable and would be welcome in particular with current planned implementation of Neurodevelopment Pathway project. However this is not essential.

Additional expertise in other areas of Community Child Health to complement the department would be welcome. Opportunity for the development of an individual candidate’s special interest will be encouraged.

You can look forward to a warm welcome and strong support from colleagues.

Our hospital is situated in the heart of Scotland, nestled against the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and close to vibrant towns that are richly endowed with excellent cultural and sporting facilities, offering good transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
