Job Advert

Applications are invited for two full time Consultant Haematologist posts based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.  These are two new posts that have been created to address the increase in referrals and treatment options for patients with Haematological Malignancies.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the current team of 9 Consultants. It is anticipated that the successful candidates will have a major interest in  Haematological Malignancies and will take an active part in clinical research. The successful candidates will be expected to develop the service within the context of the current interests of the department.

The Haematology Department has 6 Specialty Registrar posts and 2 Specialty Doctor posts.

The post holders will take part in the on-call rota for the adult Haematology service, and will cover the Haematology inpatients in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, provide advice to colleagues in Primary and Secondary Care and cover the Haematology Laboratory (this will become a 1 in 8 with prospective cover if both new posts are filled).

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary serves a population of approximately 640,000 and is located at the Foresterhill site, together with the University of Aberdeen Medical School, the Aberdeen and North East Scotland Transfusion centre, Roxburghe House, the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. The dedicated Haematology Inpatient Unit opened in 2013 and comprises 23 beds. The Haematology Outpatient Department and Day Therapy Unit were refurbished in early 2010. A new combined Haematology and Oncology Outpatient and Day Therapy facility, the ANCHOR Centre, is due to open in 2022 and will be immediately adjacent to the new radiotherapy Unit on the Foresterhill site.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in Haematology or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).
