The Operational Waste Manager role will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), but the role will cover all sites across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. You will manage and oversee the implementation of operational waste management & minimisation across all acute and partnership sites by managing waste contracts on behalf of the Board to ensure appropriate and timely collection of all wastes produced by GG&C. You will work alongside Site Facilities, Sustainability, Procurement and Finance; to review procedures and process invoices for payment by developing and issuing monthly reports on waste arising and spend against the waste contract to senior management. Investigate where appropriate spikes in waste and resolve poor practices via training and development.

 

You will be expected to plan audits, develop processes and training materials for all facility site waste leads and operatives to help contribute to waste management targets, as per the Sustainability Assessment Tool & Government Targets and contribute to the development of the Sustainability Awareness communications campaign for all waste management related issues and topics.

 

It is essential you have a relevant environmental management, health & safety or science degree with membership of a relevant organisation (CIWM). A Masters degree will also be beneficial, but not essential, as relevant work place experience with a similar sized organisation or contractor will be essential, you should have substantial relevant experience. Graduate IOSH or related H&S experience and Dangerous Goods Awareness/Qualification (DGSA). Contract management experience is essential, with significant budget and commercial awareness. Prior experience of developing policies and management systems; specifically environmental and corporate policy to complying with current legislation and standards.

 

The hours of this post are worked Monday to Friday 8.00am to 4.00pm.
