These General Practice Fellowships are for one year, from August 2021. Doctors from overseas wishing to be considered for these fellowships will need to achieve an overall score of 7.5 out of 9 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test.

You must have completed your General Practice Specialty Training within the last 5 years prior to taking up post.


General Practice Fellowships in Health Inequalities

Closing date: 15th April 2021

Salary will be £29,438 pa for 0.5 wte post and £58,876 full time post.

Any 2021/22 salary uplift will be applied.

The Health Inequalities Fellowship is particularly suited to doctors who have recently completed GP Specialty Training who may have had some previous experience of working in a deprived area and have an interest in developing specific skills related to Health Inequality which are relevant to the health needs of Scotland. 

Commitment:

  • West of Scotland – Full time x1 post
  • East and South-East Scotland – 0.5 wte (5 sessions per week) x2 posts


Clinical component – The West Region of Scotland Fellowship normally consists of five sessions per week working in the Glasgow Homeless Unit. In the South East and East there will be 2 to 3 sessions in the Access practice.  This includes the provision of general medical services but with an emphasis on the general practice aspects of high deprivation.  The part time posts will allow time to continue to develop generalist skills in the context of service general practice (eg through a locum appointment) while undertaking a tailored programme of exposure and training in relation to the Fellowship. 

The Academic component will involve being attached to the regional NES Postgraduate GP unit with opportunities to become involved with educational developments, quality assurance initiatives and evaluation/research. Individuals will be encouraged to start a postgraduate qualification relevant to the Fellowship.
