The postholder will work under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist embedded within the Older People’s Inpatient Psychology Team which is part of the Older People’s Psychology Service. The postholder will primarily support the evaluation of the Psychology Staff Support services across NHSGG&C. High level research and audit skills are essential to the role. The postholder will also, as required, support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service/team. The postholder will work independently and exercise initiative and may be involved in direct patient care under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist and in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team. The role may include assisting in clinically related administration, completion of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, and project work. The postholder will carry out assessments based on research protocol, collate and interpret results and assist in writing final reports. The role will also contribute to the development and delivery of teaching and training, under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, as required. Applicants must already possess a Psychology Degree at 2:1 or above which confers Graduate Basis for Registration with the BPS; and some paid or voluntary experience where relating to other people is a central part. Paid work in a direct care role with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities; or previous Assistant Psychologist, Research Assistant or NHS experience would be preferred. High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive are essential. The ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context; and the capacity to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals is essential.
