Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is an education and training body and a National health board within NHS Scotland, with responsibility of developing and delivering education and training for the healthcare workforce in Scotland.


What You Will Do

Scottish Government are funding an increase in the nursing and midwifery practice education infrastructure (ie practice education facilitators and care home education facilitators) until the end of March 2023 to support placement recovery because of the impact of COVID-19 on pre and post registration programmes. To support this increased infrastructure, we are looking for a Senior Educator to provide professional leadership to support placement recovery and ensure sustainable capacity across all programmes and in particular midwifery, child, learning disabilities and mental health areas across Scotland over the next two years.

Key tasks will include but will not be limited to:

  • Providing strategic professional leadership, support and development to the practice education network to increase capacity across midwifery and also child, learning disabilities and mental health nursing.
  • Providing national leadership in relation to new and innovative learning environments .
  • Supporting the nursing and midwifery workforce to demonstrate compliance with regulatory body requirements for practice education (NMC).
  • Influencing, co-ordinating and supporting the development and enhancement of practice-based learning through collaborative stakeholder partnerships across health and social care, the education sector and other local, regional and national organisations,
  • Utilising negotiation skills to ensure accordance with the practice education outcomes associated with the national network.
  • Leading an evaluation of the impact of the increased practice education infrastructure.


What You Will Bring

  • Nursing or Midwifery registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Master’s degree (or actively working towards)
  • Nationally recognised education qualification
  • Experience of working in an educationally focused environment
  • Significant experience in practice education
  • Good understanding of practice education across the specified area above
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate sensitive and complex information.


NES Offices are the preferred bases for the post, but this may be negotiable. However, it is important to note travel throughout Scotland will be required.
