An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Practitioner within the Pre-assessment suite at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.  We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced nurse to help support the Senior Charge Nurse in delivering a clinically effective service preparing patients for admission for surgery.  The post will be Monday to Friday depending on contracted hours and needs of the service.

The pre-assessment nurse practitioner is an autonomous practitioner who will support the Senior Charge Nurse, working closely with other Nurse Practitioner colleagues, Consultant Anaesthetists and Surgeons in managing waiting list patients attending for elective surgical and orthopaedic procedures.  The nurse practitioner will provide a high standard of efficient, individualised patient care by carrying out a comprehensive medical assessment, physical examination and manage ongoing medical needs of elective patients to facilitate planned admission for surgery.

The purpose of this role is to assess, evaluate and then optimise the health of patients preoperatively, liase and plan admission with the surgical / orthopaedic wards and theatres to commence discharge planning.  As a nurse practitioner you will be expected to develop and expand the role to meet the needs of the patient and the service.

You should have significant experience in a variety of surgical / orthopaedic settings, knowledge of the acute surgical / orthopaedic pathway is desirable.  Heart, lung, abdominal assessment skills and ECG interpretation skills are an essential part of the role however training can be provided if necessary.  Clinical decision making skills and Non-medical Prescribing would be advantageous.

As a nurse practitioner you will be committed to continuous professional development and possess excellent communication and organisational skills, be able to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required, demonstrate strong organisational skills and attention to detail.  As an experienced nurse you will provide strong clinical support to and work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team.
