Student opportunity – Diploma of Higher Education in Operating Department Practice (NHS FORTH VALLEY training place).

NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, NHS Forth Valley, Golden Jubilee National Hospital and BMI Ross Hall Hospital are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to undertake an innovative Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) preparation programme, which is being delivered in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland.

The place you are applying for in this advert is for an NHS Forth Valley training place and all clinical placements will be in NHS Forth Valley.

This is a 2 year programme. University induction week commences 6th September with practice placements commencing 13th September. The course is a blend of online educational theory and clinical practice-based education.  Throughout both years of the programme you will progressively gain experience in a variety of perioperative environments and be fully supported by clinical supervisors/assessors.

Successful completion of the programme will lead to professional registration with the Health Care Professions Council and you will be supported to apply for Band 5 theatre practitioner vacancies within the participating boards operating departments.

It is essential that you are a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills. You must be committed to independent study and personal development and also be proficient in the use of digital technology, information systems and email.

To enter the programme you require:

  • Passes in the Scottish National Qualifications in five subjects including two at H Level; or passes in the GCSE/GCE in four subjects including one at A Level; or SQA National Qualifications/Edexcel Foundation/SVQ level 3 or above; or SCQF level 6

The salary will be paid as Annex 21 of Band 5; 70% year one and 75% year two.
