An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified HCPC registered, Specialist Biomedical Scientist with experience working in Cellular Pathology.

The successful candidate will join our busy department based at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock, within the Area Laboratories for NHS Ayrshire and Arran. The department handles approximately 30,000 requests, 33 thousand biopsy samples and 70 thousand blocks of tissue annually. We also provide a full mortuary and autopsy service to the hospitals, community and Procurator Fiscal; Pathology services for the South West Scotland Breast Screening Service; and technical support for the Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) service. The population served is approximately 380,000.

You should be an enthusiastic and motivated individual, with an IBMS accredited Honours Degree and Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology or experience working at specialist level. The post is fully rotational through each of our laboratories (Histology, Cytology and Immunocytochemistry) and you will receive thorough training and gain experience in a wide range of techniques and morphological skill. Active participation in CPD and opportunities for further study are both supported and encouraged.

Consideration will also be given to a newly qualified Biomedical Scientist (Band 5) who would receive full specialised training and be expected to complete the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology.  On successful completion of this diploma the post would progress to Band 6, specialist status.

Hours: 37.5 per week, over 5 days.
