LAS Doctor (General Medicine/A&E) (Ref: 58251)
£33,884 to £44,828 per annum (pro rata), plus banding supplement 2B
Full Time Fixed term from August 2021 for up to 6 months
Distant Island Allowance of £1,971 per annum (pro rata)
and a relocation package of up to £2,000 for a 6 month post.
Based at the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick, this post would suit doctors who have just completed FY2 training and are considering a medical or surgical career or a core medical or core surgical trainee waiting for a StR position. Alternatively a doctor interested in a future career in general practice waiting for a StR position/a GP trainee who had completed training but who wished further surgical/medical/A&E experience. Full GMC registration with a current licence to practice is essential for these roles.
The successful applicant will work as a part of a team in both medical and surgical departments:
- The medical unit and its associated areas of work, participation in ward rounds, emergency medical receiving and teaching of medical students. Night shifts involve three or four nights at a time covering A and E, acute medicine as well as surgery.
- The general surgical unit which deals with general surgery, orthopaedic trauma and emergency gynaecology. A substantial component of the post involves seeing and treating all non-medical cases in Accident and Emergency. There will be opportunity to be involved in surgical clinics and theatre lists. Night shifts involve three or four nights at a time covering A and E, acute medicine as well as surgery.
