Job Advert

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of something special and join our small team who are making important steps towards improving and developing modern Elderly Services at the interface between community and secondary care across Moray.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and dynamic individuals who will enjoy driving the development and expansion of our Geriatric Services to meet the growing needs of an ageing population. This is a newly funded additional WTE post bringing the total Consultant complement to 2.6 WTE.  The new appointment will provide direct care both within Dr Grays Hospital and the Community, including input to Community Hospitals and links with GP surgeries.

At Dr Grays Hospital we provide Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment to the frail elderly within the ACE (Acute Care of the Elderly) Unit. The unit is supported 5 days a week by Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Social Work teams.  Out of hours it is supported by the on-call medical team.  It is currently a 10 bedded unit with this appointment allowing for expansion of the current ACE unit model including responsibility for the Stroke Rehab Unit (8 beds).

This exciting career opportunity allows for a true general medical slant that is not available in bigger hospitals and offers a blend of Acute Inpatient and Community Geriatrics. The successful candidate will be passionate and innovate around the provision of Elderly Medicine Services to inpatients with frailty issues. You will be driving delivery of care closer to patients homes in community hospitals or by means of peripheral and virtual clinics.  You will be fully committed to integrated working across acute and community as we strive to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions, improve quality of life and reduce avoidable early deaths.

There is no on-call commitment attached to this post.  We are currently developing a new acute medical model to be implemented at Dr Gray’s Hospital. As this both Acute Medicine and Geriatric Services develop there may be flexibility to participate in the on-call Acute Medical rota if this balance of work is desirable to you. The posts can be tailored to your skills and interests.

At Dr Grays Hospital we are proud to say that our hard working, talented and dynamic workforce is without doubt our greatest asset. We have many specialties on site providing a high standard of quality patient focused care and support to our local population. The 205 bedded hospital serves a population of approximately 100,000 and provides Emergency Care, Orthopaedics, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Maternity and Gynaecology. You will be coming to work in a hospital with a friendly atmosphere, great facilities, excellent teaching & development opportunities and an environment focused on innovation & improvement.
