CONSULTANT PAEDIATRIC ANAESTHETIST

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist post at Aberdeen. This is an opportunity to be part of a growing team of Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetists based at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. The advertised post is a whole time equivalent replacement post with 8 direct clinical care programmed activities and 2 supporting programmed activities.

Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital provides high quality, acute and comprehensive care for children up to the age of 16 years from the Grampian region in the north-east of Scotland, as well as from the Orkney and Shetland Islands. It is the the regional paediatric oncology provider, and is a Paediatric Major Trauma Centre. A business case to expand the service has been recently submitted in order to accommodate for the increasing demands.

Aberdeen has a large anaesthetic department which covers a comprehensive range of clinical services and caters for well-structured undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training programmes. The department is also recognised for its expanding research activity and for its support for a wide range of local, regional, and national professional activities.

The medical school, a state of the art clinical skills centre, and several renowned research institutes and centres are also on site which offers a unique opportunity for collaboration and for the development of strong research and teaching interests.

Applications from candidates wishing to work on part time basis will be considered. It will also be possible to accommodate more flexible working arrangements including annualised job plans and job sharing.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP). ​​​​​​

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
