Applications are invited for the above post within Orthopaedic Surgery. This post will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital from as soon as possible for a period of 6 months with the possibility of extension depending on aspirations.  Candidates should be in possession of the MBChB (UK) or equivalent and ideally have prior experience in orthopaedic surgery and / or general surgery.

 

This job would be ideal for those who wish to pursue a career in surgery, but need more clinical experience and/or more time to bolster their CV credentials before applying for CT/ST posts. Your post will be treated as formal approved teaching post.

 

You will be assigned a Clinical/Educational Supervisor at the start of the job, with the expectation to have goals and set out at the start of the job and regular meetings thereafter, recorded for future reference.

 

Subscription of the eLogbook to record your operative sessions will be mandatory and funds will be provided from the department to facilitate this. This will be signed off at the end of the 6 months by your supervisor.

 

The post is available within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde hospitals and duties will include: managing general orthopaedic surgery patients; participating in the on-call rota in the department, emergency ward cover; and attending outpatient clinics and theatre as required.  In addition the applicant can take a lead on departmental research or teaching activity, perhaps with a view to completion of a higher degree (MSc). Established projects exist from the orthopaedic trauma base. Time within the working week may be set aside for this specifically.

The post holder will be offered the same opportunities for education as the other training post jobs. They will also be part of the general surgical on call rota.
