Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

The Medical Directorate is responsible to the NES Board and through the Board to Scottish Government for the commissioning and delivery of postgraduate medical education in Scotland. The role of the Directorate is to recruit, oversee training, manage the trainee’s progress through the training programme and ensure the training is delivered to GMC standards.

Within the Scottish Medical Recruitment Team, this role will take on the lead for recruitment in coordinating and delivering the process from end to end. You will support the Medical Recruitment Manager and team in providing administrative lead in running the recruitment process for trainees across several specialties and staff groups.

What you'll do 

Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;

  • Ensure all processes and procedures are followed as set out by UK Medical and Dental Recruitment and Selection (MDRS) process, and key stakeholders within set deadlines.
  • Plan and Coordinate assessment and interview dates within the recruitment timetable, in liaison with clinical leads
  • Coordinate and run trainee recruitment, ensuring all paperwork and information is accessible to parties involved in the process
  • Train other admin staff who support the recruitment process, as required.
  • Develop, implement, and manage process improvement. The post holder will ensure that processes and procedures are organised effectively which will include writing up guidance as required. This will be across all administrative areas, not limited to their own job role.
  • Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders at various levels both internal and external to NES, e.g. liaising with Clinical Leads and MDRS
  • Lead and coordinate the administrative process for Pharmacy and Dental Vocational Training recruitment
  • Line Management of admin support
  • The post holder may be required to attend committees and meetings to contribute to the development of the recruitment process across the UK, as well as deputising for their line manager as required.
  • Some travel across Scotland and the UK may be required.

  • You must be able to prioritise and manage your own workload effectively and be able to undertake a wide range of activities concurrently, in addition to meeting competing demands, adjusting as required.
  • You must be able to act independently as appropriate within guidelines, using initiative and strong decision-making skills to assess situations to problem solve.
  • You must have have strong time management and organisational skills, and attention to detail.
  • You must be able to analyse, interpret and effectively communicate complex information to inform appropriate judgements to be made, or to recommend a change in process or course of action.
  • You must be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • You will have well-developed interpersonal skills and a high level of written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, presentation skills and the ability to deliver training.
