Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.  

The functions of the NES Digital Group are to develop and lead a programme of work and services that support the corporate functions that allow NES to work and deliver its strategic objectives. Digital has been formed with the specific objective of consolidating NES’ information based expertise into a professional, focused center for information and technical excellence. Its aim is to create a strategic programme for the transformation of digital based services to allow NES to become a leading digital organisation in Scottish Health, Digital by Default and fully aligned with the Scottish Government’s Health & Care strategy.

What you'll do

The postholder(s) will play a senior role in delivering valuable solutions to help support the work of NES.  They will ensure the highest standards of security, reliability, scalability and cost efficiency across their team.  This senior role will also mentor, support and develop more junior members of the team.

Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;

  • Development of a suite of web applications on NES’s Turas Digital Platform using the .Net stack or other appropriate technologies 
  • Lead an agile software delivery team in delivering against its objectives 
  • Discover, evaluate and implement suitable established and emerging technologies that support and enhance NES Digital’s products 
  • Develop, maintain and improve NES Digital’s continuous integration and delivery systems to ensure we are constantly delivery value to our user communities 
  • Provide technical expertise on migrating NES Digital’s relevant continuity systems onto the Turas Digital Platform
  • Mentoring and line management of junior members of the team

What you'll bring

These will include but are not restricted to;

  • Direct experience and ability to guide others in the delivery and operation of software solutions in a complex environment.
  • Ability to mentor and develop more junior team members.
  • Experience in providing advice and consultancy to other engineers in areas of specific technical expertise (e.g. security, client side development, deployment etc.)
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies e.g. Azure, AWS; and designing, building, deploying and operating systems in the cloud.
  • Expertise in fundamentals of software development including: version control, continuous integration, continuous delivery, unit testing, and test driven development.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders outside the immediate team, such as clinicians and other NES staff. Understanding their problems and managing feedback on solutions you have provided.
