Job Advert

This is a great opportunity for a nursing professional who has worked as a Band 5 research nurse, to further develop their skills and expertise in clinical research. The Clinical Pharmacology research team seeks a research nurse funded by the Chief Scientist Office through the R&D department to facilitate Clinical Research in NHS Grampian.

The key roles will be to recruit patients to clinical research studies, to support local investigators in preparation of the paper work (local ethics and R&D approval) for these studies, to help with sample collection with timely and appropriate storage, organise research investigation flow for each participant, ensure data storage and possibly some preliminary data analysis.  A large proportion of the work will be in multicentre clinical trials of treatments in people with above conditions.

The post requires a flexible approach to working hours in order to meet the requirements of the research protocols and subject recruitment.  Additionally, the post holder may have to deputise for the Principal Investigator in his/her absence, including attendance at research meetings and liaise with local and national research bodies.

This post will be an ideal opportunity for nurses with either emergency, cardiovascular, urology and/or connective tissue research experience, who have a flexible approach, and are able to manage a caseload of patients/volunteers. They should be computer literate, with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.  Knowledge of and experience of healthcare research is desirable.   It is expected that they will be keen to learn and work to the highest standards of Good Clinical Practice.

Consideration will be given to nurses with little or no research experience but have a genuine interest in moving to into clinical research. In this situation, the nurse will be required to work through a pre-determined development programme and KSF outline enabling progression to the Band 6 foundation requirement for the post after at least 12 months at Band 5

The holder of this post will be based in Clinical Pharmacology, under the direction of the Senior Cardiovascular Research Nurse.
