NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest healthcare system in the with an annual revenue budget of £3.2 billion, employing around 39,000 staff. We deliver local services to a population of over 1.2 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. We also work in close partnership with other organisations and agencies including the six Health and Social Care Partnerships, local Universities, community planning partners, third and voluntary sector colleagues.


The geographical area covered is diverse from the major city of , large and small towns, villages and some rural districts and encompasses six local authority areas from to Inverclyde.


We are now looking to appoint an inspirational, dynamic and highly creative individual who will have lead accountability for all strategic and operational elements of NHS Greater Glasgow and ’s Communication and Public Engagement Strategy. 


This is a rare opportunity for a senior professional to embrace an exciting and varied role requiring a strategic approach to local, regional and national communication strategies and at the same time place engagement with the public at the heart of all we do.


The new Director will lead a team delivering and continually improving our external and internal communications and public engagement work and will manage and prioritise a significant, critical and complex portfolio of services  including the 24/7 media relations service, public engagement, event management and public consultation.


The ability to demonstrate the skill and resilience to engage effectively with an extremely diverse stakeholder community will be a key priority for the post.


As a member of the Corporate Management Team, you will play a key role in the strategic and operational director of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.  You will report to, and work closely with, the Chief Executive to ensure our integrated corporate communications and engagement strategy reflects the objectives, policies and strategic plans of the NHS Board.


We are looking for a senior communications strategicst, with significant experience in communications who can demonstrate a track record of success working across sensitive and political issues.


As a strategic thinker, able to work at pace, you will come with significant public engagement experience and a reputation for delivering effectively in a complex, organisation that has a high level of public interest.


This unique and highly visible role requires an individual with the resilience, political acumen, strategic vision, tactical skills, and above all, leadership that will impact internally and externally to the organisation.
