You will work across both the New Victoria Infirmary and the supporting the work of the SLTs on these sites.  You will work directly with patients jointly planning and implementing individual and group treatment programmes under the direction of a Speech and Language Therapist.  You will meet with patients and carers where practical information or general advice is discussed with the patient by the Speech & Language Therapist/Support Worker which demands an understanding of the patient’s condition and you will routinely liaise with SLTs and provide feedback on patient condition, progress and treatment.  You will, using defined protocols undertake telephone screening, basic initial assessments and patient observations.  You will work as part of several multi professional teams to ensure effective communication and delivery of care. You  will assist the Speech & Language Therapist with procedures requiring 2 people e.g. videofluoroscopy clinic, accompanying SLTs on domiciliary visits.  You should have formal training and/or experience in a relevant discipline e.g. SVQ level III or equivalent in health, therapy or care support and a good working knowledge of IT - e.g. word processing, use of internet, and data inputting. 

The hours of this post will be worked Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm. The shift pattern for this post will be discussed at interview.
