Clinical or Counselling Psychologist – Aberdeen

Our workshops, courses, one-to-one and group support help people to change the way they live with cancer. Understanding every person’s individual circumstances is central to what we do and means we can guide them to the support that will help them the most.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical or counselling psychologist to join the Aberdeen Maggie’s team, alongside another part time clinical psychologist. We are happy to consider flexible working arrangements and secondments. The role can be appointed at 8A, or with preceptorship support towards 8A from a band 7 for a newly qualified candidate.
The role offers the chance to deliver and further develop our unique model of psychological care, one that is accessible and highly responsive to the needs of the local community. Our centre psychologists are responsible for the provision of a high quality, evidence based and specialist programme of psychological assessment and support for people dealing with cancer. They contribute professional expertise to the Maggie’s MDT and integrated programme of cancer support for people living with the impact of cancer, provide staff support to non-psychology colleagues, and are central to the development, delivery and promotion of the Maggie’s organisational programme of psychosocial research and work, working closely alongside the Centre Head.
This is an opportunity to work alongside a friendly and skilled multidisciplinary team, working together to create a dynamic and effective service to be proud of. The appointed psychologist will be able to offer groups, workshops and individual therapy, as well as forming an integral part of the wider emotionally supportive environment which is the Maggie’s centre.
The appointed psychologist will form part of the wider Maggie’s psychology community across our 24 centres in the UK, and attend both regular group supervision alongside psychologists from our other Scottish centres, and individual supervision with our Lead Psychologist. The successful candidate will also benefit from local and national links with other NHS acute service psychologists and other oncology healthcare professionals.
The ideal candidate will be as passionate about the way we work as we are; an HCPC registered psychologist, ideally with experience of working with adults with psychological problems related to health conditions although this is not essential. Competency in more than one evidence-based therapeutic modality is required, alongside an enthusiasm to apply innovative and effective interventions for people affected by cancer.
