Applications are welcomed for 2 full time (40 hours per week, 10 PA) substantive consultant subspecialist gynaecologists in gynaecology oncology. The candidates will have completed the RCOG subspecialist training programme or its equivalent at the point of commencement.

The Gynaecology Oncology Centre in Glasgow Royal Infirmary is responsible for the management of 860 new gynaecological cancers each year making it one of the largest UK gynaecological cancer centres. Robotic Assisted Surgery (RAS) has been introduced to the department in 2020. We are looking for enthusiastic new colleagues to contribute to all facets of the surgical service including the opportunity to be part of RAS team.

The department is the tertiary referral centre for the West of Scotland gynaecological oncology service with a catchment population of 2.5 million people. Advanced ovarian cancer surgery is undertaken with our colorectal surgical team available where required. Our vulval cancer surgery service also has established links with our plastic surgery department to deliver excellent perineal reconstruction surgery where necessary. The department still manages a significant number of cervical cancers each year and in keeping with other centres we are seeing a year on year increase in endometrial cancers. Exenteration for recurrent gynaecological cancers is also undertaken, working closely with colleagues who have recently undertaken fellowships in international large volume cancer and exenteration centres.

We have moved to an online MDT platform and we are developing a new MDT system to aid patient management, data collection and to inform our quality performance and outcome indicators. The wider Oncology service links into the Beatson Oncology centre. The clinical and medical oncology teams are also based at the Beatson with all oncology teams working closely together to deliver high level treatment options for all gynaecological cancers. All teams actively recruit to a wide range of clinical trials with close links to the Beatson research units. For an interested applicant there would be opportunities for collaborative laboratory based research and in addition the large clinical workload ensures there will always be opportunities for clinical based projects.

Glasgow is an exciting and vibrant city with a wealth of history and heritage. There is an abundance of museums and galleries within the city centre and National parks are within a short drive. It is a fantastic place to live and work.

Candidates will have contribution to the general gynaecology on call rota (frequency approx 1:9).

More detailed departmental information can be found in the descriptions below.

Applicants must have full GMC registration and a licence to practise.
