An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Balfour Hospital Laboratory for a Medical Laboratory Assistant who will be required to work as part of the laboratory team.
The post holder will be required to prepare and process clinical specimens for biological testing.
They will be responsible for preparing work for the Biomedical Scientists who provide a clinical diagnostic service for Haematology, Biochemistry and Microbiology.
They will also perform basic patient sample testing under supervision, helping with the setup of analysers and the daily running of the departments to ensure the best possible service for patients in NHS Orkney.
They will deal with reception and telephone queries from various sources, handle requests and queries from members of the public, address queries and results enquiries from members of staff and liaise with hospital and community departments regarding laboratory samples.
Applicants are required to have basic to intermediate level IT skills, sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, excellent communication skills, written and verbal, and to be educated to Standard Grade in Maths, English and a Science based subject.
This post includes Distant Islands Allowance, pro rata
This post is fixed term for for 1 year to cover materinty leave within the team.
