Job Title: Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology

Band: 7

Accountable to: Director of Psychological Services

Reports to: Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Health Psychology Service

This is a post funded via the Scottish Government Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme. It is currently fixed-term through to 31/3/2020.

Lanarkshire have developed a Primary Care Transformation Programme (PCTP). The programme manages and co-ordinates Primary Care Funded projects into one programme of work to support the primary care workforce, including GP’s and improve patient access to services. This also encompasses Mental Health Services. Delivering high-quality mental health care in primary care requires new models of shared care to be developed with other care providers, including working in the community and third sector care and well-being services. Through this programme there will be greater use of lower tier, low complex, social prescribing and self-management programmes (bibliotherapy, web-based support, technology enabled care, telephone support, stress control, guided self-help, peer support and community link workers), in addition to enhanced capacity to provide access to psychological therapies.

This CAAP post is one of three band 7 CAAP posts that have been embedded into GP pilot sites (for both North and South Lanarkshire) to improve direct access to psychological interventions for people who present with long-term physical health difficulties (e.g. diabetes, heart disease and chronic pain) and who are experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression. These posts are hosted by the Clinical Health Psychology Service which provide line management, clinical supervision and professional development. The CAAPs provide 1:1 evidence-based interventions and provide GPs with support/advice as well as providing a service development role with regards to expanding the pilot sites.

Informal enquiries regarding the post will be welcomed by Dr Deby Graham, Counselling Psychology on 01236 712564.
