Interim Programme Director of Quality Assurance Strategy (Ref: 073402)

Secondment opportunity 12 months

Edinburgh/Glasgow (*remote working required)

Salary: Commensurate with current salary/ grade.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) is a national health board within NHS Scotland whose purpose is to enable the people of Scotland to experience the best quality health and social care. We have a broad portfolio of responsibilities from sharing the most up-to-date evidence of best practice, offering improvement support, providing rigorous external quality assurance of NHS and independent healthcare services , and supporting people to have a greater say in the design and delivery of health and social care services.

HIS has a strong track record in providing national leadership for improving the quality of health and social care and the work of the Quality Assurance Directorate is an essential part of this.

The range of assurance activities we undertake has expanded and evolved in recent years in response to national policy imperatives, and more recently the COVID pandemic, with the directorate undertaking a growing range of complex and high profile work programmes requiring effective multi-agency working.

It is imperative that our quality assurance approach continues to reflective and respond to the changing health and social care landscape and aligns to the organisation’s ambitious corporate aims. We are therefore looking to appoint a Programme Director for a period of 12 months to develop our future strategic direction for quality assurance. The post holder will also be responsible for overseeing any organisational change required to support delivery of the new strategic approach in partnership with directorate staff and relevant stakeholders.

To excel in this role your extensive knowledge of delivering high quality and robust quality assurance, either internally or at a national level, will have been honed in a healthcare or similar complex environment. You will have significant experience and proven track record of developing and leading strategic change and a detailed understanding of the complexities of health and social care systems. As a natural leader, you will be able to work constructively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and be used to managing complex relationships, competing priorities and opposing views in order to identify agreed ways forward.

Further information on how you can make a significant contribution to improving the quality of health and care in Scotland is contained within the application pack. Informal enquiries can also be made to the Director of Quality Assurance (lynsey.cleland@nhs.scot ).

*Periods of remote working may be required. Further details will be given at interview.

Closing date: 5 November 2021 at midnight

Interviews are anticipated to take place on Monday 22nd November 2021.
