Job Advert

This post is a 10 PA post in Forensic Psychiatry and is intended to provide the specialist clinical and professional skills of a Specialty Doctor in Forensic Psychiatry.

The Direct Clinical Care component of the post comprises of 9PAs in Forensic Services providing input into the Lanarkshire Forensic Psychiatry service, which comprises a low secure Forensic Psychiatry inpatient unit, a new Forensic Psychiatry Rehabilitation inpatient unit, and community care for Forensic Psychiatry patients.

The successful candidate will join an established team of consultants working in the Lanarkshire area. NHS Lanarkshire maintains a 15-bedded low secure Forensic Psychiatry inpatient unit, and the specialist 12-bedded Forensic Psychiatry Rehabilitation inpatient unit on the same site. The post holder will have the opportunity to become involved in continuing service development in this area, providing specialty doctor care to patients in the Lanarkshire area under the auspices of a consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, primarily at the 2 inpatient sites. It would be expected that a successful candidate would become involved in the expansion of the rehabilitation programme for inpatients to help progress their recovery journey and successful reintegration into the community. Opportunities for semi-autonomous community working may also be available, as felt appropriate to the Specialty Doctor’s level of training and experience, as well as general opportunities for personal and professional development.

In addition, the Specialty Doctor will be involved in liaison and close working with the community Forensic Psychiatry service. The well-established Community Forensic Mental Health Team comprises disciplines with substantial experience in managing mentally disordered offenders and risk in the community. The clinical team includes Community Psychiatric Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Support Workers and Clinical Psychologists. There would also be the opportunity to become involved in the care of mentally disordered offenders admitted to local General Hospitals, and to work closely with the General Adult Psychiatrists there, in line with current protocols. Further experience can be gained in constructing risk assessment and management documents using a SPJ tool, along with the drawing up of associated treatment plans in a multidisciplinary team setting.

The job plan provides time for non-clinic based activities, as well as CPD, research, and audit.
