CONSULTANT IN GASTROENTEROLOGY

Full Time (10 PA, including up to 2 SPA)

Salary Scale - £ 82,669 - £ 109,849 per annum

Looking for a new and exciting challenge? Then think about working in NHS Forth Valley in the heart of Scotland.

The successful candidate will not only be required to contribute to the general clinical Gastroenterology and GI endoscopy service but also to support the development of a subspecialty interest in hepatology which will compliment the existing team. Current sub-specialty interests within the department include inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, pancreatobiliary disease, viral hepatitis, interventional endoscopy, nutrition and gastrooesophageal disease.

The GI service functions as a fully integrated unit with all members contributing to a team-based approach to patient care and this appointment will play an important role in the continuing development and redesign of Gastroenterology services.  The existing Gastroenterology senior staff comprise eight Consultants and five GI specialist nurses. We have a fully equipped endoscopy department with 4 rooms (1 screening room) and an endoscopy team to include colorectal and upper GI surgeons as well as five nurse endoscopists. We have a close working relationship with surgical colleagues for complex inpatient care (hepato-pancreato-biliary disease, inflammatory bowel disease, acute gastrointestional bleeds) and weekly upper GI / HPB / colorectal / IBD multi-disciplinary team meetings.

At present 6 of the 8 existing GI Consultants also contribute to the acute general medical receiving and it is expected that this appointment will carry a similar responsibility to unscheduled care in acute medicine.

You can look forward to a warm welcome and strong support from colleagues.  Our hospital is situated in the heart of Scotland, nestled against the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and close to vibrant towns that are richly endowed with excellent cultural and sporting facilities, offering good transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Applicants will be registered with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a CCT at the time of interview or have a certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). Applicants are required to have evidence of recent continued academic and professional development. Excellent, communication, listening and organisational skills are essential.

Informal enquiries should be directed by telephone to Dr David Watts, Gastroenterologist and Clinical Director for Medical Specialties, on 01324 566827 or to Dr Stuart Paterson, Gastroenterologist and Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology, on 01324 566841.
