We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, pro-active and highly motivated Practice Nurse to join our well organised, hardworking and forward thinking team on a full -time basis.

You will provide high quality Primary Care to our patients in the context of a high secure mental health environment. The ideal candidate will play an active role within the Health Centre to contribute to the maintenance of our high standards and help develop patient services for the future.
The State Hospital is the only special security psychiatric hospital covering Scotland and Northern Ireland. Patients are treated in accommodation appropriate to their needs and in an environment that supports rehabilitation. There are 140 high-secure beds for male patients. The ideal candidate would be a Practice Nurse with experience in Chronic Disease Management - diabetes and cardiovascular disease management. Our Health Centre systems in place are VISION/Docman, therefore excellent IT skills are essential, patient communication skills and professional skills are also essential.

Considered applicants should be comfortable accepting responsibility and be able to work independently. They will be responsible for providing clinical assessments, working autonomously, utilising their decision making skills and clinical judgement in relation to patient care including the diagnosis and management of acute conditions and able to provide chronic disease management.  Other responsibilities include health screening, wound management, other general treatment room duties.
Applicants will be a Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration. Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level. They will be able to demonstrate further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of specialty including study days/courses. You will have Practice Nurse experience in a Primary Care Practice Setting, experience in triage would be beneficial. Accredited training in chronic disease management is desirable – Asthma Care, Diabetes care.
