Job Advert

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Anaesthetist post in Aberdeen. The post is more suited to a candidate with an Obstetric Anaesthesia interest.

Located in the North East of Scotland, Aberdeen is an affluent, friendly and vibrant city, combining all the amenities of a large city with quick, easy access to its beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline.

Aberdeen has a large Anaesthetic department which covers a comprehensive range of clinical services and offers many opportunities to develop research and teaching interests in collaboration with the local universities.

The post is being advertised at an exciting time for NHS Grampian with several recent and planned developments on the Foresterhill site including the Baird Family Hospital and the new Elective Care Centre. Moreover, with Aberdeen becoming the first major trauma centre in Scotland and the establishment of a new hub for emergency medical retrival services, there are excellent opportunities for an enthusiastic appointee to develop interests in a wide choice of areas.

The 10 programmed activities job description includes 8 direct clinical care and 2 supporting programmed activities. On call duties will be approximately 1:8 and on a non-resident basis. Subspecialty interests in Paediatrics, Neuro, Cardiac and Thoracic Anaesthesia can also be accommodated and the successful applicant will be given the opportunity to adapt their clinical duties over time to fit with their interests. Up to 2 extra-programmed activities may also be agreed with the Unit Clinical Director.

Applications from candidates wishing to work on part time basis will equally be considered. It will also be possible to accommodate more flexible working arrangements including annualised job plans and job sharing.
