The post holder will possess advanced knowledge of the un well patient and so be an expert clinical practitioner taking a lead role in providing clinical support.

The main role of the Advanced nurse practitioner is the provision of high quality acute and emergency clinically effective care utilising expert clinical skills and knowledge and incorporating research and evidence based practice with collaboration with colleagues in every day practice within Lothian University Hospitals Division working effectively as a member of the Hospital at Night/Day team. This service is to be provided in an easily accessible and timely fashion.

To work effectively and provide leadership, clinical support and advice to nursing and junior medical staff acting as a first point of contact and making referrals to or co-ordinating with the other members of the Hospital at Night Team/Hospital at Day team.

In the absence of onsite senior management, take responsibility for dealing with site management issues in the first instance, including staffing, bed management and resource allocation

To provide liaison with the Out of Hours Service facilitating patient referrals for potential admission and with on call specialities with patient self referrals.

*Please note this is a Trainee post, therefore Annex U applies*

For trainees covered by Annex U where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:

  • up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
  • more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
  • more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
  • more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
