Are you looking for a unique challenge and opportunity to shape the delivery of patient care for pharmaceutical care in cancer services for the Southeast of Scotland Network (SCAN) and the wider pharmacy service at the Western General Hospital? Due to the pending retirement of the current postholder, we are looking for a dynamic and innovative individual to take over the leadership, strategic planning and development of the Western General Hospital pharmacy service, and strategic lead for SCAN.

The continuation of the service improvements and new developments already in progress (e.g. ATiMP/ATMP infrastructure readiness, planning for new Cancer Centre) will be key initial deliverables for the new post holder; along with optimising the standards in the delivery of medicines prescribing and safety for the site as HEPMA was implemented in Spring 2021. The postholder will form part of the Pharmacy Strategic Service Team and will participate in the overall strategic planning of all Pharmacy Services in Lothian.

The individual must have a degree in pharmacy and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and eligible to work in the UK; a post graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences is essential. Experience in cancer services is essential requirement for any candidate applying. Candidates must have a passion for delivering a quality service to meet our patients medicine safety needs, and a drive for service improvement and staff development.

Experience in working effectively at a senior level in a pharmacy management/professional leadership post; practical experience in facilitating and leading change; an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills to foster multidisciplinary team working; building professional relationships and acting as a role model for the pharmacy profession; and the demonstration of personal values aligned to those of the NHS and our organisation are essential. In addition, previous experience of applying quality improvement methodology to service development will be an asset to any applicant applying for this post.

The job will be based at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.
