We are recruiting a Senior Management Accountant to support 2 of Scotland’s largest District General Hospitals. We are looking for an individual with excellent communication skills and with the ability to think strategically. You will ideally have experience of leading and motivating teams, working within a senior management team providing a varied range of financial expertise and challenge, from reporting encompassing financial recovery and cost/efficiency improvements, to medium term planning appraising revenue business cases.

The successful individual will be confident in communicating with people at all levels in the organisation and across all professional disciplines. They will hold excellent analytical skills, with an ability to challenge, influence and persuade where required. In supporting a team and several directorates, the successful individual should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. The post will report to the Head of Acute Finance and lead and develop a team who are aligned to clinical directorates within the hospital.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Being the principal financial advisor integrated into the management team of University Hospital Wishaw and contributing to business planning and the financial monitoring processes;
  • Producing a monthly financial position that has integrity, accuracy and analysis;
  • Developing cost awareness, identifying and quantifying key cost drivers and being able to model the implications of changes in activity in these;
  • Ensuring that effective budget holder meetings are being held in line with the departments KPI’s.


The successful applicant will be a CCAB or CIMA qualified accountant with post-qualification experience within a Financial Management team. You will ideally come from the NHS, but may also come from areas within the wider public sector. The chosen applicant will be able to analyse, compare and interpret complex financial and performance data. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to negotiate and influence others, but also explain financial information clearly to those who don’t understand it. Finally, you will be able to demonstrate a track record of previous achievements and being able to deliver work to tight deadlines.

Please note that this post is Fixed Term to 31st March 2019, however, there may be a possibility that this will be extended.
