Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is an education and training body and a special health board within NHS Scotland, with responsibility of developing and delivering education and training for the healthcare workforce in Scotland.

What You'll Do

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Psychology Directorate within NHS Education for Scotland.  Following on from the publication of the NES/ Scottish Government (2017) Transforming Psychological Trauma: Knowledge and Skills for the Scottish Workforce, we are seeking experienced and highly motivated practitioners to deliver a portfolio of national educational initiatives focussed on supporting implementation of the framework.

We require up to 1.0wte to lead on educational and implementation of a whole system approach to ensure children and young people who are involved in the care system are met with a trauma informed and trauma skilled approach and have access to high quality, evidence based interventions when required. This should be aligned with all the work already developed by the National Trauma Training Programme.

Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;

  • Planning and implementation support of a trauma skilled training package which is blended with existing learning resources
  • Supporting coaching into practice and developing coaching networks within partner organisations
  • Deliverying (screen to screen or face to face) trauma informed and trauma skilled training to partners where required
  • Supporting the development of a robust, evidence based training for trainers package as associated governance supports
  • Supporting the development of a robust approach to measuring impact of training delivered as part of the NTTP
  • Ensuring that all training developed and delivered is fully integrating the needs of people with lived experience including those with lived experience in the workforce as well as in the populations served
  • Working effectively in a high performing team and across a broad range of stakeholders

What You'll Bring

The successful applicant will be an innovative and highly motivated health or social service practitioner (qualified to Degree level or equivalent) and have significant experience of practice in the field of working with babies, children and young people with care experience in teaching / training, research, facilitation and working in a healthcare / social care/ education environment.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills are essential, as is engagement in partnership working with a range of stakeholders. In addition, the post-holder will be committed to multi-professional and inter-agency approaches to education and health and social care, and will be able to demonstrate flexibility and high-level diplomacy skills.

The base for the post may be negotiable but is important to note that it will be necessary for the successful applicant to travel across Scotland. The post will require travel throughout Scotland, and occasionally to other UK countries.

Informal enquiries are welcomed by Sandra Ferguson (Associate Director) at sandra.ferguson@nhs.scot.

** This post is available as a secondment opportunity in the first instance. If a secondment arrangement is not possible for you we encourage you to make contact to discuss options.
