The Director of Midwifery is a Pan Greater Glasgow and Clyde post and is the Board’s most senior expert Midwifery Advisor.

This is an exciting opportunity for a truly inspirational and compassionate midwifery leader who will demonstrate Midwifery/Nursing expertise and leadership across the maternity and gynaecology service as part of the Women’s and Children’s Clinical Management Team, leading, planning, prioritising and delivering the Midwifery, Nursing and Quality agenda, including developing policy and educational interventions to shape the future Midwifery and Nursing resource.

Providing support to the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Executive Director for Nursing, Midwifery and AHPs in leading and directing the strategic and professional and clinical development of Midwifery and nursing care, to improve the quality of women and staff experience, the Director of Midwifery will provide clinical leadership and expertise to all Midwifery and Women’s Nursing Services and participate as a member of the Management Team contributing to the delivery of safe, timely care within the hospital sites and the across the Community services, ensuring compliance with NMC policy and guidelines in relation to the provision of patient care and standards of professional practice and conduct.

As the Director of Midwifery, you will ensure the provision of a viable, accessible and authoritative Midwifery and Nursing presence in ward, clinic and community  settings, providing assistance, advice and support to women and their families  and ensuring receipt of timely, safe, effective  patient centred care. 

Working closely with the Service Director, Chief of Medicine for Women’s and Children’s Services and General Manager to provide visible leadership at both service and NHSGGC level, including leadership for the infection prevention and control programme, providing assurances to the Director that all services are fully prepared and meet the expectations and standard of any inspections from Healthcare Environment Inspectorate and Healthcare Improvement Scotland.

Educated to Master’s Degree level 11 e.g. Masters (or equivalent) plus significant experience in a Senior Midwifery management/leadership role and must be a Registered Midwife practitioner on the NMC Register.
