Healthcare Improvement Scotland is an organisation with many parts and one purpose – better quality health and social care for everyone in Scotland.

We are seeking to appoint a Health Services Researcher to the Evidence Directorate at Healthcare Improvement Scotland. The post is a permanent, full-time role and can be based in either Glasgow or Edinburgh, however home working will apply for the foreseeable future

The ideal candidate would be familiar with undertaking systematic reviews of published evidence, and have an understanding of both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. Experience in writing papers for publication would be desirable as would previous clinical experience. The positions require experienced, clear thinking individuals with a broad range of research skills, and excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. In addition to a numerate, biomedical discipline or social science degree, the post holder will be expected to have a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject and/or have extensive health services research experience.

The role will support the work of the Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG), a multidisciplinary group who work with NHS boards and across health and care settings to promote the safe and effective use of antibiotics. We work closely with NHS National Services Scotland (NSS), NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and Antimicrobial Management Teams in regional health boards to deliver this work. SAPG promotes a One Health approach to appropriate use of antibiotics in humans, animals and in the environment.

The role would involve reviewing published evidence to support the evidence base for the work of the group. The post-holder may also be required to undertake rapid review and topic scoping work, to support the wider Evidence directorate work within Healthcare Improvement Scotland.

We are looking for someone who can bring relevant knowledge and experience and who can make an immediate contribution to the work of the SAPG programme
