CLINICAL LEAD – SCOTTISH RADIOLOGY TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME – ADVANCING PRACTICE PROJECT
Approximately 0.5 to 1 day per week
The Scottish Radiology Transformation Programme (SRTP) was established by NHS National Services Scotland in 2016 as a 10-year programme to address the risk of service failure in Diagnostic Radiology services across Scotland. The drivers for change were increasing demand, failure to recruit to vacant posts and a reducing available workforce. This is a high profile Programme involving engagement at all levels across NHS Scotland.
Phase 1 of the programme delivered and tested the infrastructure required to allow transformational changes to Radiology provision in Scotland. A Business Case for Phase 2 of the programme was approved in December 2019 and proposed the continuation of service change over the next 3 years, aiming to address capacity shortfall, demand constraints and productivity. Phase 2 delivered some early benefits and is laying the foundations for further transformational change.
To help achieve a sustainable and resilient radiology service a shared vision and Target Operating Model (TOM) was approved by NHS Scotland’s Chief Executives Group on 4 August 2020.
The Imaging Executive Board (IEB) asked the Scottish Radiology Transformation Programme (SRTP) to support this work. The vision and Target Operating Model has been developed in collaboration with a wide spectrum of stakeholders and draws on their input to describe how the service should look in the future. It is owned by the radiology community and informed by the experiences of patients, carers and referrers. A roadmap has been developed to achieve the recommendations within the Target Operating Model and national vision.
The clinical lead will play a leading role in shaping the future of how Radiology services are delivered across Scotland, particularly with respect to improving capacity and capability through the promotion of Advancing Practice. The post holder will provide expertise on the clinical, training and workforce requirements and benefits of Advancing Practice.
The Clinical Lead will join an established team with a passion for transforming services to improve healthcare for citizens in Scotland. The role is critical to shaping the future of Advancing Practice in NHS Scotland, and will be a key contributor to the delivery of this extensive programme of transformational change. This will include working closely with senior stakeholders such as the Scottish Government, Society and College of Radiographers, regional Radiology and Radiographer Leads and Service Managers, SCIN, the Scottish Access Collaborative, Higher Education Institutes and Clinical Service Users to ensure continued buy-in and support for the project.
You should be a suitably qualified Consultant Radiographer or Advanced Practitioner Radiographer with experience of leading, planning and achieving major change projects in a complex, multi-faceted working environment. The role requires a high level of credibility, diplomacy and influencing skills to generate commitment to the SRTP Advanced Practice project. Therefore, experience in collaborative, cross boundary working and influencing at an executive level will be an advantage, and you will need to have proven experience of stakeholder engagement at a national level.
