£40,872 - £47,846 (Band 7)

Full time (37.5 hours/week)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Social Researcher to join the Improvement Hub (ihub) within Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS), which is currently developing a range of new approaches to enable improvements in health and social care in Scotland. The role will sit within the Evidence and Evaluation for Improvement Team (EEvIT) and will work closely alongside the Mental Health Improvement Portfolio.

EEvIT provides high quality evidence review and evaluation support for HIS improvement work. EEvIT supports improvement/redesign teams within the ihub to use evidence to inform the planning and development of their work. In addition, a large proportion of EEvIT time is spent supporting improvement/redesign teams with the evaluation of their improvement work and the sharing of learning from service improvement in redesign to support spread.

We are looking for a Social Researcher with particular experience and interest in rapid literature/evidence review and synthesis. We are particularly interested in people with experience in research and evaluation of mental health and addiction services however although such experience is advantageous, it is not mandatory. Ability to search and consider different types of evidence is important.

An understanding of social research and evaluation methods and an ability to produce content in a way that can reach different audience is beneficial. It would be also useful to have applied knowledge of quality improvement. Experience of rapid approaches for the review of evidence is also beneficial. You must be an effective networker and demonstrate communication skills to an advanced level. A flexible approach to work, the ability to consider various perspectives in the development of work and working in collaboration with others (teams and service users) is essential. You will be based within EEvIT, which is part of the ihub, but may be required to work across directorates within HIS.

This position requires an experienced, clear thinking individual with a broad range of research skills, and excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. In addition to a health or social science degree, the post holder will be expected to have a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject and/or have extensive social research experience.

The post holder will work closely the new Personality Disorders programme, which is led by the Mental Health Improvement Portfolio. This programme aims to understand the current state of service provision for people with a personality disorder in order to identify key opportunities for improvement and to then develop proposals to deliver improvements.
