An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Antimicrobial Pharmacist to take on leadership of the Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG). This is an excellent opportunity to influence change at national level.

Based in the evidence directorate of  Healthcare Improvement Scotland, SAPG works with NHS boards and the Scottish Government to improve antibiotic use, to optimise patient outcomes and to minimise harm to individuals and to wider society. SAPG supports the building of public health policy at local level. It helps to safeguard the health of the population and informs the planning to improve health in Scotland and to ensure high standards of clinical practice based on evidence.

The post-holder will provide leadership for the implementation and delivery of the antimicrobial stewardship programme objectives and will be responsible for implementing, directing and managing these within the agreed time frame and budget

You will ensure the delivery of robust, evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship that will have significant impact on clinical practice / patient care in Scotland. You will also be responsible for delivery of the SAPG work programme..

You will work within a multi-professional network to provide strategic, specialist and professional pharmaceutical advice to all national and international stakeholders including NHS Boards. The outputs from SAPG will support effective antimicrobial stewardship at NHS Board level for implementation of local services.

You will be part of the Evidence Directorate senior management team with a key role to play in supporting the wider work of the directorate and Healthcare Improvement Scotland and will deputise for the Director.

You will work closely with the key stakeholders involved in the specialist national service (e.g. the 15 Scottish regional NHS Boards  national boards and healthcare professionals across the NHS including senior clinical and managerial staff, and Public Partners to ensure collaborative working and effective delivery of SAPG functions.

You will hold a masters degree in pharmacy and be a member of the General Pharmacutical Council (or be eligible). You will also have significant experience of working at a senior level in pharmacy with wide ranging knowledge of pharmacy practice at all levels across all spectrums at national level.

The Evidence Directorate develops and disseminates evidence-based advice for NHSScotland, including clinical guidelines, health technology assessments and clinical standards, and also provides internal evidence development, research, health economics and knowledge support for the other functions of the organisation.
