A unique opportunity has arisen to join the medicines team at National Procurement, to support the procurement and distribution of vaccines with a particular focus on the NHS Scotland Seasonal Flu Vaccination Programme, one of Scotland’s most important health protection initiatives.

Working closely with vaccine manufacturers, the contracted distributor and NHS Scotland Health Boards, the postholder will help co-ordinate the distribution of 1.4m vaccines to over 1000 delivery points (GP Practices and hospitals) each year. Data and information are critical to the success of this process; a significant part of the role will be detailed data analysis and reporting using both NHS and supplier-provided sales data. The role also includes the opportunity to support the ongoing delivery of efficient and effective contract development and implementation projects using best practice procurement skills to ensure compliance with legislative and national policy and service delivery standards.

National Procurement is the Procurement Centre of Expertise for Health and works in collaboration with health boards to ensure the highest level of patient care through the provision of a wide range of goods and services via a series of best value National Contracts and Distribution Services.

The candidate should have completed, or have an undertaking to complete, Level 6 corporate membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS) and/or a relevant business degree and/or evidence of equivalent qualifications and/or evidence of relevant experience preferably within the procurement profession.
