Job Advert

Since 2004, the Glasgow Centre for Population Health (GCPH) has generated insights and evidence, supported new approaches, and informed and influenced action to improve health and tackle inequality. Working with a wide range of partners, the GCPH conducts research of direct relevance to policy and practice; facilitates and stimulates the exchange of ideas, fresh thinking and debate; and supports processes of development and change.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the communications team of the GCPH. We are recruiting to two posts: a Digital Communications Officer and an Editor/Publisher Communications Officer.

Both posts are unique within the team, responsible for the delivery of different aspects of the GCPH Communications Strategy. They involve contributing to the overall planning, development and delivery of the Communications Strategy and working across our channel mix of written publications, events and face-to-face engagement, digital and media. A key aspect of these roles is the ability to translate complex information into easily understandable and clear messages in a range of formats for different audiences.

The Digital Communications Officer (post 096127) has lead responsibility for the development and maintenance of the GCPH and Understanding Glasgow websites and management of our social media channels. They also support the development and delivery of other digital communications such as infographics, animations, audio and video recordings, e-newsletters, and new media projects.

The Editor/Publisher Communications Officer (post 096137) has lead responsibility for planning, developing and implementing the publication activities of the GCPH. This includes the editing, proofing, design and production of a broad range of publications and outputs and supporting the dissemination of same. The postholder is also involved in creating copy for internal and external audiences.

Applicants should have: knowledge of communications and marketing or campaigning techniques acquired through experience and/or training to degree level or equivalent, alongside experience of project management; knowledge of Equality and Diversity legislation and good practice in terms of impacts on communications, particularly language, design, layout and use of graphics; good knowledge of MS Office and at least one design application.

Key attributes include: meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy; excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work creatively and on own initiative; and being a team player with the ability to work well to competing deadlines.

Both of these posts are being offered on a fixed-term 12-month rolling contract basis. Both are available as secondment opportunities (subject to agreement of own organisation).

A ‘find out more’ session for potential applicants will be held on Wednesday 27th April via Zoom where potential candidates can find out more about the roles and GCPH in an informal way. If you would like to register for this, please contact Kelda.mclean@glasgow.ac.uk
