Healthcare Support Worker (Higher Level)
 (Medical Laboratory Assistant) 
AfC Band 3 –  37.5 hours per week

Applications are invited from individuals with a scientific background for the above post in the Haematology/Blood Transfusion Laboratory.   This is a busy and progressive department based in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Campus.   The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in the blood transfusion section of a busy department within a large teaching hospital.   

Suitable candidates must 3 Highers at Grade C or above, which should include either Chemistry or Biology together with Maths, or SVQ3 in relevant science subject, or completion of modern apprenticeship in life sciences, or completion of equivalent accredited education / learning.

 Knowledge and experience of laboratory work would be an advantage but full training will be provided.   Keyboard skills are essential.   The hours will be variable and will consist of 37.5 hours over a 7 day week.   A 24 hour shift system will be in operation.  Main duties will include the transportation of blood and blood products to satellite blood fridges in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Royal Hospital for Children.

You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
