Public Health and Intelligence (PHI) is a strategic business unit of NHS National Services Scotland, part of NHS Scotland. PHI provides health protection, health information, health intelligence, statistical, and knowledge management services and advice that support the NHS in progressing quality improvement in health and care and facilitates robust planning and decision making.

This is a unique opportunity to work in national Health Protection as part of a team dedicated to the development and maintenance of guidance production. This will involve working across different areas of health protection with a variety of stakeholders both within and out with NHS Scotland such as NHS Boards, Scottish Government Health Directorates, local authorities, NHS Education Scotland, NHS Health Scotland, academia and national health protection agencies as part of the Scottish Health Protection Network (SHPN).

This is an exciting and challenging time for Public Health and Intelligence (PHI) and Health Protection Scotland (HPS) as we move to become part of a new Public Health Body for Scotland, to be known as Public Health Scotland.

We are currently seeking one full time (37.5 hours per week) Healthcare Scientist Advanced Band 7 post in the SHPN-Guidance Team within Health Protection Scotland based in Glasgow. This role will contribute significantly to the development and review of national health protection guidance, guidelines and standards as part of the Scottish Health Protection Network (SHPN). Candidates should be able to demonstrate recent experience and success in literature search and analysis techniques, strong analytical and writing skills and the ability to work in conjunction with a wide range of professional and stakeholder groups.  Knowledge and application of search and analysis tools and techniques will be required and previous experience in developing standards, guidance or guidelines. You will be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and on your own initiative and lead on projects or topic areas as required.

You will have an enthusiastic approach and good organisational skills; a primary degree in a scientific or clinical subject, and a postgraduate degree in epidemiology, public health or a relevant healthcare related field and/or demonstrable experience in epidemiological research methods.

You will be able to work to a high standard using judgment and initiative to handle day-to-day issues, while balancing your time and workload to meet deadlines. You will have a proven, successful track record in epidemiology and the ability to analyse and interpret data/information and to communicate your ideas in a clear and concise manner is essential. You must be results–orientated and be able to achieve these working in partnership, in a team environment. It is vital that you demonstrate the values of NSS with openness, integrity, respect and care being at their heart.

Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits.
