NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest NHS Health Board in Scotland  employing around 40,000 staff, our annual revenue budget is £3.3b and with a  capital spend annually of £60m, this represents around a quarter of overall Health spend in Scotland.

With an operational estate of approximately 931,506 square metres the services and functions of our Estates and Facilities Directorate are delivered by around 4,666 staff who directly support clinical activity and healthcare provision across our integrated Acute Hospitals, Primary, Community and Mental Health Services in communities across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.

In the current changing healthcare environment the Directorate’s senior management team have  a key role in the  Board’s Corporate and Strategic Planning of new clinical facilities and operational service specifications.

The Role

We are now looking to appoint a new Assistant Director Infrastructure, Planning & Delivery to this high profile and rewarding career opportunity. Joining an established, committed and forward thinking senior leadership team the successful candidate will have a significant contribution to make for one of the largest NHS Estates, Property and Facilities operations in the United Kingdom.

At this critically important time, the post holder will have oversight and responsibility across a highly complex NHS system for the development and delivery of the Board’s Infrastructure Strategy and Capital delivery plan.  Maintaining an effective and fit for purpose Strategic Infrastructure Investment Plan and ensuring the delivery of all Capital Projects timeously and within budget are viewed as key priorities of the role.

As the Board’s expert in Asset Management and Capital programme delivery, you will have direct responsibility for an extensive property portfolio across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region, alongside the delivery of a multifaceted capital programme. You will be the lead specialist and provide direct leadership and operational management to the Asset Management and Capital Delivery Team, ensuring all contract work is carried out to a high performance and compliance with recommended standards and legislation. 

We are looking for an exceptional candidate

Our ideal candidate will come to the role with an already proven track record of managing Property and Capital Planning Budgets of significant scale. The role demands extensive experience at a strategic level within a large scale, complex, multi-site environment, preferably within the NHS or other comparable Public/Private sector organisations. 

The scale, profile and complexity of this opportunity should not be underestimated and therefore requires a high degree of resilience, tactical skills along with inspiring others, credible communication and influencing skills.

Candidates must hold a Master’s level or equivalent qualification, and it is essential you will hold full qualification in one of the recognised Chartered Professional Bodies such as Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Association for Project Management (MAPM) or Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).

An essential requirement will be evidence of significant experience of working strategically and corporately at or close to board director level, and a record of achievement and ability to meet strategic organisational objectives at senior management level.
