We have a range of AHP Senior Educator posts available to provide coordination, support and supervision for AHP practice education across Scotland.


We are seeking to appoint to:

1 full time permanent post

1 full time 2 years fixed term post (up to end of March 2023**) and​​​​​​​

0,6 wte permanent post

Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is an education and training body and a special health board within NHS Scotland, with responsibility of developing and delivering education and training for the healthcare workforce in Scotland.

The core function of the NMAHP Directorate is to support the education, training and continuing professional development of nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, health and social care chaplains and support workers. The Directorate is also responsible for providing education, training and workforce development across wider professional groups and disciplines, often in partnership with other agencies, to support key policy imperatives such as Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI), dementia and health and social care integration.


These posts will sit as part of the Practice Education programme within the NMAHP directorate. As an HCPC registered practitioner, as one of the Allied Health Professions, you will also join the AHP community within NES.


What you'll do

You will be joining the highly regarded NES AHP Practice Education network which supports workbased learning and CPD across Scotland for registered Allied health professions and others including students and support staff working within AHP services both in the NHS and a range of other settings. The network includes the NES principal educator, practice education coordinators and NES funded health board employed AHP Practice Education Leads.


We are keen to recruit to 2.6wte senior educator roles to support the following demands:

  • The new paramedic degree programme requiring significant practice education experience for each paramedic student across NHS and outwith NHS practice settings
  • The pressures on practice education arising from Covid 19 which demand innovative and creative solutions to meet student placement needs
  • Ongoing practice education to support existing AHPs to fulfill, extend and transform their roles


Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;

  • Providing strategic professional support, supervision and leadership for designated Practice Education Leads
  • Leading on the coordination, implementation and impact evaluation of designated workstreams within key priority areas of practice education for AHPs
  • Further develop information sharing networks and processes to influence quality AHP practice education experience at local, regional and national levels
  • Influencing, co-ordinating and supporting the development and enhancement of practice-based learning through collaborative stakeholder partnerships across health and social care including service users, students, HEIs AHP Directors, professional bodies and Scottish Government
  • Contribute to the NES organisational objectives and development of strategic plans


What you'll bring

Your passion and enthusiasm for supporting AHP practice education across the career pathway and evidence of providing leadership in an interprofessional setting.

These will include but are not restricted to;

  • Being a HCPC registered member of one of the Allied Health Professions*
  • Educated to masters degree or can demonstrate equivalent experience in an educationally focused setting
  • Working within a multidisciplinary environment utilising facilitation and network building skills including excellent stakeholder management.
  • Experience of design, development and evaluation of educational programmes of work and interprofessional education.
  • Experience of leading, developing and managing health or other services and applying improvement methodology.
  • Evidence of creativity and innovation, effective communication and facilitation skills and project management experience
