Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is an education and training body and a special health board within NHS Scotland, with responsibility of developing and delivering education and training for the healthcare workforce in Scotland.


The core function of the NMAHP Directorate is to support the education, training and continuing professional development of nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, health and social care chaplains and their support workers.  The Directorate is also responsible for providing education, training and workforce development across wider professional groups and disciplines, often in partnership with other agencies, to support key policy imperatives such as Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI), dementia and health and social care integration.

The Women, Children, Young People and Families (WCYPF) programme is within the NMAHP Directorate where key areas of work include clinical skills education in Midwifery and Maternity services, the Family Nurse Partnership Education Programme, continuing professional development for Child Health Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, School Nurses and Health Visitors.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the NMAHP Directorate and WCYPF programme, working in partnership with NES Psychology.  We are seeking a highly motivated Nurse and/or Midwife with experience and knowledge in perinatal and infant mental health, to deliver educational initiatives and support the perinatal mental health curricular framework and delivery plan.


What you'll do 

Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;

  • Work in partnership with colleagues in NES NMAHP and NES Psychology to contribute to the NES Perinatal Mental Health Curricular Framework.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues in NES NMAHP and NES Psychology to promote alignment with other relevant work programmes, for example, Scottish Multiprofessional Maternity Development Programme (SMMDP) and the National Trauma Training Programme.
  • To provide leadership and co-ordination of perinatal and infant mental health training to promote and support local implementation plans.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues to design workforce research and/or evaluation relating to mental health and wellbeing in pregnancy and the early years.
  • Liaise with relevant national and third sector organisations external to NES to develop and deliver education and workforce development activities focused on perinatal and infant mental health.


What you'll bring

These will include but are not restricted to;

  • Registered Nurse and / or Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Knowledge and experience in perinatal and infant mental health.
  • Substantial postgraduate experience and will have held enhanced responsibility in an educational or healthcare post
  • Ability to communicate sensitive and complex information.
  • Experience of planning, developing and delivering education and training
