Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is an education and training body and a special health board within NHS Scotland, with responsibility of developing and delivering education and training for the healthcare workforce in Scotland.

What You'll Do

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Psychology Directorate in a role funded by the Mental Health Division (MHD) of the Scottish Government Health Directorate (SGHD). We are seeking experienced and highly motivated practitioners to deliver a portfolio of national educational initiatives in Psychological Therapies and Interventions for staff who work in integrated mental health settings for Adults and Children, Young People and Families.

The post provides an opportunity for practitioners with experience and training in evidence based Psychological Therapies and Interventions to take a key role in a programme of work at national level that currently includes training/education developments supporting the delivery of the NES Enhanced Psychological Practice (EPP) Programme (Adult and CYP). Within the EPP Programme, there are two courses; one which focuses on practitioners working with Adults (EPP -A), and a course targeted at practitioners working with Children, Young People and their Families (EPP-CYP).

We are seeking practitioners with expertise within both Adult and CYP’s mental health and wellbeing, and anticipate that there will be sessional appointments to the posts to ensure that we have a spread of skills across the lifespan.

What You'll Bring

The successful applicants will be experienced, innovative and highly motivated health service or social care practitioners (qualified to Masters level or equivalent); who have significant experience of working within integrated mental health services (for Adults and/or Children, Young People and Families) providing evidence based psychological therapies and interventions within a stepped care service model; teaching / training; facilitation; and working in a health or social care / education environment.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills are essential, as is engagement in partnership working with a range of stakeholders. In addition, the post-holder will be committed to multi-professional and inter-agency approaches to education and healthcare, and will be able to demonstrate flexibility and high-level diplomacy skills.

The base for the post will be Edinburgh or Glasgow but is important to note that it will be necessary for the successful applicant to attend a significant number of meetings in each city.  The post will require travel throughout Scotland, and occasionally to other UK countries.

Informal enquiries are welcomed by Anne Joice anne.joice@nhs.scot (for EPP- A enquiries) and Marita Brack marita.brack@nhs.scot (for EPP-CYP enquiries)

This post is available as a secondment opportunity up to March 2026. If a secondment opportunity is not possible a fixed term contract will be explored, though please note secondments are preferred. Please express which basis you are applying on in the Personal Statement section of the application form.  Applicants who are applying on a secondment basis are strongly encouraged to discuss this with their current employer at the earliest opportunity.
